I suppose you have heard that half of Santa Barbara County (the empty half) has pretty much burned over in the Zaca fire. In Ventura County now we get smoke all day and I wake up with a really dry throat.
So its not like I’m jealous or anything, but boy are those trees GREEN.

Oh yeah, absolutely. We’ve been tracking the fire all summer and it’s scary to watch (although not unexpected, given the intensely dry conditions in so much of So. Cal.). Everyone we know in Santa Barbara talks about the constant ash and smoke in the air, and having been through this so many times myself in the 24 years I lived in the L.A. area, I can smell and taste it from your accounts. Awful.
Every time it drizzles a bit here or, like this morning, thick fog rolls in, I do a little rain dance of celebration. Having lived in a fire zone for so long and having had to evacuate more than once in the face of oncoming flames, I realize that I suffer from Post Traumatic Drought Syndrome! I’m doing my best rain dances to bring some of this moisture to you guys!
Yours in rising humidity,
Alex
