Friday cat humming
A whole lotta hummin’ goin’ on.
Smudge and I both appreciate the wooded view from my desk. When we each turn our little heads to the left, we can see the water reflecting under a greyly shrouded sky that’s holding the sun hostage today. Ever the optimists, the sun still shines despite the haze, Smudge still thinks he can snag that hummingbird, and I still believe that I can finish everything this afternoon that methodically glares at me from a blue post-it note just out of view.
In the constant struggle of wills and power, I like to think that a positive outlook trumps all, despite odds to the contrary. Reality is for sissies!

Nosing around a bit I discovered that other bloggers have Cat Friday blog days. It is a kind of a tradition, and here I thought it was a Shapiro uniqueness; and to some extent it is, since the regal Smudge and perky Moses only appear on NFTK.
Your musical clip, BIOPLASMSINGINGPLAYING @ 2:34 is always a treat. The original, on the CD NOTES FROM THE KELP, of course, at 12 minutes, is also on a CD done by the LA Flute Quartet. It is one of your most cherished and award-winning pieces. I really love it. I mediate to it. It is, as your have pointed out, an undersea adventure, and for me I visualize some rather interesting creatures swimming by as I listen.
It is nice to have you home, for the time being, working hard, yet still finding the time to exercisze your wit and wonder at your island paradise.

Smudge and I
both appreciate
the wooded view
from my desk.
When we each turn
our little heads
to the left,
we can see

Ever the optimists,
the sun still shines
despite the haze;
Smudge still thinks
he can snag
that hummingbird,
and I still believe
that I can finish
everything
this afternoon
that methodically glares at me
from a blue post-it note

In the constant struggle
of wills and power,
I like to think
that a positive outlook

When I posted this poem on FFTR, I found a darling white kitty’s face to go over it. Smudge is the star this morning.

Busy Lady…slaving and composing and God knows what….I found a few more lines of yours that peaked my fancy. You were fascinated with the change of colors last Fall, after decades of subtle seasons in California.
Fall
A noun.
A verb.
A season.
It’s here i
n Friday Harbor!
After so many years
of living in a world
of palm trees
whose only color variant
was the bright bulbs
people wrapped around
their skinny trunks
as Christmas approached,
well,
nature’s own design sense i
s very refreshing.

I found a great image to go with it on FFTR.
