Alex Shapiro's Trio for Clarinet, Violin and Piano was recorded in 1999 by clarinetist Berkeley Price, violinist Nancy Roth and pianist Deon Nielsen Price and appears on The Price Duo's CD, Clariphonia: Music of the 20th Century on Clarinet. The award-winning piece has been heard in concerts across the U.S. and in Europe, performed by many ensembles including the Titan Trio, North/South Consonance, eXindigo! and ensemble Green. The Price Trio gave the piece its British premiere in July 1999 at St. Mark's Hall in London, as a featured American work at the International Congress of Women in Music, and was also the ensemble which performed it at a 2002 concert held at the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, D.C.

"The Price Duo is a mother and son teamshe the pianist and composer, he the clarinetist. The title work Clariphonia (the only work here with chamber orchestra) is so named for its use of the A clarinet, E-flat soprano, E-flat Contrabass, and Basset Horn. In general I find it and Ms. Price's other pieces inventive and entertainingquite charming and appealing, making use of mixed meter and taut rhythmical gaiety while in no way neglecting those things we like so much about music, such as melody. I would be delighted to sit down at a clarinet recital and hear this music.
[My favorite selections are] a sharply rendered clarinet trio by Alex Shapiro and a sweetly sung suite by Madeleine Dring...]
