Found Out Hard

Not long ago
I had an open heart
Loving and kind
Ready to find
Those who shared my spark
Never said no
Never had reason to
Then without a word
Something occurred
That changed my view And I, I found out hard
I, I found out hard
Now when I meet
Anyone the first time
I see past the smile
And put them on trial
For their unknown crime
You may be good
You might be an honest man
But far as I know
The farthest I throw
Is how far I’ll plan
Cos’ I, I found out hard
I, I found out hard
How can you know
How can you ever be sure
How can you know
Someone’s intentions are pure
Once you’ve been burned
How can you walk near a flame
Once you have learned
That trust is a dangerous game
The past is my grief
And it’s managed to hitch a ride
I’ve slowly turned into
Somebody grim
I don’t recognize
I’ve got to learn
How to release this weight
It’s heavy and cold
And I could grow old
In this bitter state
Cos’ I, I found out hard
I, I found out hard
How can you know
How can you ever be sure
How can you know
Someone’s intentions are pure
Once you’ve been burned
How can you walk near a flame
Once you have learned
That trust is a dangerous game
When I look in the mirror
I’m startled at what I see
Reflections of ghosts
Instead of the images of me
How can you know
How can you ever be sure
How can you know
Someone’s intentions are pure
Once you’ve been burned
How can you walk near a flame
Once you have learned
That trust is a dangerous game
